Can a Light Bulb Really Change the World?

Okay, so I was recently reading an article about how newer compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) can change the way we spend energy.  We all know energy consumption is a pretty hot issue nowadays.  Apparently, Walmart is on a mission to sell 100 million of these swirl shaped bulbs this year. This could really change energy consumption in the U.S.

I couldn’t resist and went ahead and bought one this evening.  It really does resemble a soft-serve ice cream swirl.  According to the package, this bulb is supposed to last me for the next seven years and will spend 75-80% less energy.  Your typical light bulb lasts only 1,000 hours and will last you about 8 months.
