Google has a new, voice-activated 411 service called GOOG-411 you can access from any phone, anywhere, at anytime. With GOOG-411, you can find local business information completely free, directly from your phone.
Call 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411), say where you are (city and state), you can also type in a zip code, and then say what you’re looking for (business name or category), choose the one you want, and GOOG-411 will connect you. And, if you call from your cell phone, you can also say “text message” and GOOG-411 will send you a text message with information about the business you’ve selected. If your phone has Internet, you can also say “map it” and Google will send you a map of the neighborhood around the business.
Google doesn’t charge you for the information or for connecting you to the business you’re looking for. Give it a try and see how simple it is to find and connect with local businesses for free. Keep in mind, however, that your telephone company may apply regular charges for making a phone call or receiving an SMS. For more information, go to http://www.google.com/goog411.
I love google 411. I also use skype with a subscription plan, along with a dlink skype switch. Now my phone bill is only 2.46 a month. I am wondering why some companies like Verizon don’t lower their prices.
Brett from Dial Directions, here with another free service to try out along the lines of the 411 service mentioned above for when you need to find out how to get where you are going:
1-DIR-ECT-IONS (1-347-328-4667).
Just call 1-DIR-ECT-IONS from any cell phone, speak your start and destination address or intersection, and receive by text message turn-by-turn driving directions. Super easy, and it’s free. Only your carrier charges for talk and SMS may apply.
